It's often possible to force an opponent tobe on the ground, but it's impossible to force someone to stand and fight. Therefore, victory in a free fight between two opponents generally goes to the one who masters the techniques of ground fighting.
As a result, there's not as much room for the throws or for the strike techniques as far as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is concerned, compared to other martial arts.
Thus, during free fight, many jiu-jitsikas confront wrestlers, boxers, or karatekas within niternational competitions. (prinde, ultimate fighting championship), and show they are formidable fighters. Even though jiu-jitsukas are brought to the ground and are made to fight back onto the ground, it's a position (within the guard) that is interesting as part of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and that you have to masterr for the free fight.
